Our January meeting will feature the club's annual Photo Contest, and Board Elections.
If you'd like to enter the contest, simply come to the meeting with a photo of a reptile or amphibian that YOU have taken. You can enter as many as you'd like. Winners will receive a year's membership.
Meetings start promptly at 8pm in the Alumni Room of Medaille College.
Amphibian and Reptile Auctions
In my never-ending quest to acquire more herps this cub reporter has found that there is a downside to have many animals - you have to house them somewhere.
Anyone who has owned and taken care of herps can tell you that the enclosure and all the accessories can often start adding up. Sometime you can luck out and find a sale or get something from a fellow herper, but there is another option.
Online auction sites like Ebay (http://www.ebay.com) and Yahoo! Auctions (http://auctions.yahoo.com) can be excellent places to find supplies for animals. From aquariums to books, these auction sites can often uncover some real treasures. For example I was able to purchase a digital gram scale, which usually sells for around $90 for only $32.
Caution is often needed when shopping on these auction sites. Both Ebay and Yahoo! Auctions offer ratings systems that can help you identify reputable sellers. It's always a good idea before bidding on an item to check the feedback that has been left by others who have dealt with the seller before. Personally I also try to stay away from sellers that do not have many auctions under their belt because they usually don't have enough feedback to be able to tell if they are reputable or not.
If you're looking for livestock you may want to check out Herp Auction (http://www.herpauction.com). This auction site works much the same as any other auction site. A new comer to livestock auctions is Reptile Auction (http://www.reptileauction.com). As of the writing of this article Reptile Auction did not have any items listed but is probably worth a check back occasionally if you are looking for livestock.
