The Spring Peeper is a smaller frog and rarely exceeds one inch in length. They are generally brown, gray or green with dark markings on the back which form an "X" shaped pattern.
The call of the Spring Peeper is one short high peep like their name suggests and can usually be heard during breeding season from March until June. They are usually found in wooded areas near bodies of water such as ponds, streams or marshes.
Remember that in many places it is illegal to take wildlife out of the wild without the proper permits from local, state, or federal authorities. Please do not release any captive reptiles or amphibians into the wild as this will disrupt the natural order of our environment. See our amphibian and reptile adoptions page for more information on what to do with unwanted herps.
